1969年７月、27歳にして人生の幕を閉じた天才ミュージシャン、ブライアン・ジョーンズ。今もなお第一線で活躍するロックバンド「ザ・ローリング・ストーンズ」の創始者でありリーダーだった彼の、謎めいた死の真相に迫る映画「ブライアン・ジョーンズ ストーンズから消えた男」が渋谷シネクイントで公開中です。70年代のロックをアナログレコードで聴きながらお酒が飲める、渋谷の老舗ロック・バー「Rock'n roll Music Inn GRANDFATHER'S」店長の石川徹さんに、この映画を見た感想と、70年代ロックにまつわるエピソードを聞きました。

ここ「GRANDFATHER'S」で働き始めたのは、大学生の頃、飲食店でアルバイトがしたくて、アルバイトニュースで見つけたことがきっかけでした。２年ほど離れていた時期はありますが、また戻ってから正社員になり、今に至っています。開店当時、ロックを聴きながらお酒が飲める店は、ほとんどなかった。道玄坂にはコーヒーを飲ませる店はあったんですけどね。オーナーはそこに目をつけて、渋谷という街がこれから栄えると読んでここに店をつくったんです。その後、カフェバーやディスコがブームになって、どこでも音楽が聴けるようになっても、この店を続けてこられたのは、アナログレコードの良さが見直されたからでしょうね。そのときのお客さまの様子を見ながら、LPの中から一曲ずつ選曲してかけているうちに、店を支持してくださる人が増えた。そういう方が、息子さんを連れて来店してくれたりするんです。

だから上は50代、60代から、下は20代まで、客層は幅広いですね。今の若い人はiPod世代でしょう。僕が若い頃と同じ、音楽を一曲ずつ楽しむ世代なんですね。だから店でかけた曲も、自分の感性にひっかかるものがあると、パッと反応します。「この曲、何ですか？」って。古くからの歴史を感じられるように、オーナーが「GRANDFATHER'S」という店名にしたのですが、今ちょうど70年代のロックやAOR（アダルト・オリエンテッド・ロックの略。大人向けの落ち着いたロックを指す）がそのイメージになってきましたね。このあたりの音楽って、お酒に合うんです。聴きながら心地よく飲める。だから幅広い層に受け入れられるんでしょうね。
