In the "Shibuya Tenku Urban Project", we will play the urban dead stock "rooftop"!
"100 BANCH" (Hyakubanchi) opened in JR Shibuya station New South Exit area in July 2017 is the center of open innovation aimed to "support 100 projects to create a future 100 years ahead". As Panasonic celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2018, the concept of Loftwork Co., Ltd., a cafe company, which is a company in Shibuya, mainly focuses on Panasonic, has started.
Together with the young generation who will be in the future era, we will work on the creation of new value leading to the next 100 years. It is an initiative that top runners in each field support and support activities through mentoring opportunities for young people 's "diverse projects" with values not bound by common sense. In the Shibuya Cultural Project, I would like to introduce some unique projects that will participate in the experimental area, which will be produced by many new ideas and technologies from Shibuya.
This time, which will be the first time, we will welcome architect Katsuya Suzuki who will focus on "rooftop" in a city that is an idle asset and try to reproduce the dead space as a valuable space. Among several rooftop playback ideas, in this interview, I listened closely to "Shibuya Tianyaru Urban Project" Suzuki's work on 100 BANCH. In the first place, why was Ms. Suzuki fascinated by "rooftop"?
| The world's first urban image rich even from the sky.
First of all, please tell me the outline of the project.
It is a project called "Create a new city that nobody has seen before, using all the sky in Shibuya". The current Shibuya is one of the busiest cities in the world on the ground surface, but suddenly looking at it from the sky, it is a scattered landscape with outdoor units and cubicles (power receiving facilities transforming electricity) lined up . We are thinking that we can revive the rooftop which is only a vast dead space and the wall surface to a valuable space and aim to be rich the world's first urban image even if seen from the sky.
_ Why did you start using the rooftop of the city, and did you get started with 100 BANCH?
I thought about this project itself over 10 years ago. In the past, when I was staying at my friend 's house without money, I was also experimenting whether I could live in a vacant space such as a rooftop, a river, under an elevated seat, I could not live a new way of living. Currently I run a restaurant that also serves as my own architectural design office called "Misuma", but it was originally thought to open "Misuma" on the rooftop.
When I was aging various ideas for about 10 years like this, I accidentally found the name of the Hasebe district ward in the mentor field of 100 BANCH, I decided to participate thinking that the story was early. Thanks to Shibuya station surrounding maintenance department, we introduce local people and business people, and the road is opening gradually.
_ Please tell me a case of "rooftop utilization" so far.
There used to appear on the radio before, but at that time the high response was the effort "sky disaster prevention camp". The sky disaster prevention camp is to learn disaster prevention knowledge that puts emphasis on "how to enjoy an evacuation life", assuming a case where many people who have difficulty coming home due to urban disasters etc. occur.
After checking the evacuation route, we will set up a tent on the roof and enjoy urban camping. Through outdoor experiences on the rooftop without the electricity and water infrastructure, when the useful infrastructure suddenly disappears, you can feel the need to watch what you need.
On the roof of the former Kamihama Elementary School, which is managed and operated in the New Year's Day of this year, Makinohara-shi, Shizuoka Prefecture, we held a "first day sunrise camp in the sky", but I could taste unusual feeling like survival. Especially I felt a little understood why mountaineers and winter camp enthusiasts are doing such harsh things only when surrounded by cool and clear air in the winter and the mountains illuminated by the full moon did.
| Shibuya is a pot with soup acting.
_ Why did you decide to work in Shibuya?
Hasebe 's flexibility has been seen more than before, which is the biggest chance. Also, at the Department of Architecture at Yokohama National University, I was able to receive the design task of architect Nishizawa Rieho at three years, but the theme was "Shibuya". The proposal on that subject was a proposal to hang a platform to place small movable type building counties in the dead space of the city and to lay the building group under the elevated. In Shibuya for the first time to design the scale of the city, it was Shibuya that I did fine field work for the first time, so experience there may be great. Either way, Shibuya is frequently referred to if you give the city's literature, and I feel that consciousness that it is a rare area that can not be removed in referring to the city has been planted from when . If you can do something that is impossible in other areas here.
Frankly speaking, Shibuya has an image like a "pot". A pot like a pot seems to add a variety of tastes to those who do not know where they came from. As I was involved with Shibuya, I also realized that local people, mainly Kim Wang Yahata, are acting as "soup" considerably, and I feel the depth of this pot.
_ "Pot baking soup" is an interesting viewpoint. Please tell me about the future development of the project.
First of all, we think that we can collaborate with outdoor makers in order to expand the "sky disaster prevention camp". I call it "urban outdoor" to enjoy the unique outdoor unique to the city without taking time to spend time, but enjoying the outdoors in the city in the past urban environment is unrealistic It was. But in the present age when the city has matured, I think that the soil is in place.
In parallel with that, we are also proceeding with "Heavenly Furniture - Sakura ~". Heavenly furniture is a somewhat larger exterior furniture series that is set up where difficult construction with the roof top is difficult. Designed as a furniture like architecture, which directly improves the ambient atmosphere simply by installing without direct construction. For example, just placing a chair in a space with nothing, there will be a "place" in it. When recognizing that a person is a chair, maximize the "perception space" that complements such brains, giving hints to induce people's actions such as "sit" without special explanation I am making furniture to use. Specifically, I made a small bench with embedded cherry seedlings and plan to set it up at the venue at "Sakura Festival" to be held at Sakuragaoka Town in front of Shibuya station on 30th March. Because this can be carried, it seems to be able to enjoy as cherry blossoms such as moving cherry blossoms such as cherry blossom mikoshi, as cherry blossoms to carry, so I would like to make it a challenge for next year or later.
There is another special role for cherry seedlings. Hasebe ward president often says "London, Paris, New York, and Shibuya", if Shibuya had opportunities to line up with the world, I would like to have cherry blossoms raised in Shibuya be presented overseas I am thinking. However, it is almost impossible to raise seedlings on the ground surface of Shibuya now. I think that the rooftop is the best, and I think that the scene with poppets and cherry blossoms on the roof of the pencil building in Shibuya also seems to be interesting.
Although the explanation of the sky furniture has become long, in the future I would like to consolidate the basic part of the sky utilization. I feel that doing this project means that the idea of rooftop usage itself is totally undeveloped. Contributing to cities such as suppressing heat islands, better air circulation, suppressing guerilla heavy rain due to rainwater delay, improving heat insulation, and reducing noise is enormous by rooftop greening. Some buildings that contribute to the urban environment are also present, as rooftop greening is mandated for buildings of a certain size or above. Also, how many groups are promoting rooftop use such as "Shibuya Honey Project" which carries beekeeping on the roof, "Neo shared section" which promotes utilization of idle space in Shibuya, "Weekend · Farmers" which performs rooftop farming in Maruyama Town There is. However, we do not have a system to justify it. Since it is still underdeveloped, I would like to make a mechanism to properly evaluate it by making an award like "Celestial green area certification".
| We want to open "Matching · Presentation Competition" where business is established.
_ How can we accelerate the use of rooftops?
It is almost impossible to change the entire sky in Shibuya, even if you are doing ethic by idiomatic. The money falls to the building owner and the real estate agent properly, the sponsor enterprise and the municipality are evaluated, and it will not penetrate if the user does not turn around as enjoyment and economy. So, I'm thinking about "matching · presentation meeting". This gathers owners who have rooftop rights and architects, students, designers, businesspeople and all creators present various ideas, adding criticism of experts there, the owner "as a business It is a matching project to order. It is a thing that is weighted on "feasibility / profitability" which was not in competition only for the idea so far. We regularly organize it as a system, and think that acceleration differs as the sky changes as a business. Hundertwasser, an architect, insisted on the obligation to green the rooftop, "You can have" rights of the window "but also" obligations of the tree "at the same time", but even ethics There is a limit even if you pull it by just looking and obligation feeling. Even in the construction design work, it is very difficult to persuade modern clients with ethics alone, and it is too strict to go as an economy. Shibuya is a city with high land prices and overcrowded population. That is why I think that there is soil in the sky where new business can be established.
_ In the future, if there is a call to like such people to cooperate and participate ...
People who want to do something using unused rooftops or outer walls, people who think that they are a waste on the rooftop, people who like outdoor people, people who want to see the city from a different perspective, people who are interested in environmental problems , People who like the earth,
And a company that wants to return something to the city as CSR or CSV!
Owner owning a building because we do not mind how small it is!
We appreciate your cooperation! Please be in bold here (laugh)!
_ Please tell me about Suzuki's enthusiasm for "How do you want to change Shibuya?" In this project.
I am hoping for the world's first "three-dimensional urban landscape" to be formed. Shibuya dramatically changed in the form of "Koen-dori" centered on Shibuya Parco until the 1970s, in the form of leading the city in Japan, but since then the urban landscape has not evolved to that point. The building county in Shibuya became suburbanized, and the area in front of the station became bigger.
This is not limited to Shibuya, and the cities around the world are maturing. If Shibuya can pioneer the world and present "a form of new maturity" here, will not cities around the world and megacities turn into a better direction? In the future, it is predicted that the urban population ratio will increase more and more. I want to breathe pleasantly, making city air and environment a little better. In general, many projects take more than a year, and urban projects usually take more than ten years. It is an intrinsically time consuming attempt, but as soon as the number of people who stand up increases, it will run as soon as it increases. We appreciate your cooperation by all means.
<News report>
The rooftop of Tokyo is full of heat. How effective is the use of this energy and open space, creating new urban spaces, gathering places, disaster prevention places in the future after 100 years? I will continue to pay attention to this effort that I am excited to think about, and I would like to participate with many people.
