Passage Tells: Shibuya, Sound Installation Focused on People Working at Shibuya Station
At the concourse in Shibuya station underground from March 18th, an installation "Passage Tells: Shibuya" focusing on people working at Shibuya station will be held.
"Passage Tells Project", a performance artist and Daisuke Nakazawa's group, focuses on one passage in the city, where "site-specific sound installation" produced from the interview sound of people living and working. "Passage Tells: Brixton" held for the first time in Briston, South London in 2015, set in a traditional small shopping street in the city of Brixton where gentrification (the phenomenon of upgrading the city due to rising rent) is going on Implementation Participants are able to listen to the interview sounds of the uncertainty of the future possessed by immigrants who live there, fluctuations of the identity caused by the change of the city, and the like when they walk through the shopping street with the headphones to be handed over. The appearance of the shopping area coming in as visual information and the intrinsic and inner surfaces of people living there as aural information gathered interlaced to arouse various imagination for participants and evoked concern and interest in the town. The second work is "Passage Tells: Edinburgh" held in Edinburgh, Scotland. Focused on the lives of local people living around the main street of the historic sightseeing area, highlighting the light and darkness of the tourism landscape.
This third Tokyo version, following London and Edinburgh, will focus on workers working in the station area of Shibuya Station. Using the underground concourse “Shibuya Chikamichi”, which links the basement of Shibuya Station from Shibuya Hikarie to SHIBUYA 109, work in the station premises such as drivers, station staff, cleaning staff, engineers, construction personnel involved in redevelopment While listening to the voices of various workers and the sound of the station, they re-evaluate the scenery of Shibuya, which usually passes casually. In over-populated densely populated cities, Tokyo, large numbers of users can move smoothly because the huge transportation system is functioning properly, but the transportation system is carried by many people working in the station yard. It is none other than the individual power of. Although we are not usually conscious of their existence, we will close up the existence of the workers who support the huge station Shibuya from a new perspective through participation in the work.
The scenery of the basement of Shibuya station which is surely walking will surely look different. Please do join us during the term. Advance reservation is required from the website if you wish to participate.
