江戸っ子たちが夢見た浮世絵の世界を、対照的な作風で人気を博した２人の天才絵師・国芳と国貞の作品を通して伝える企画展「ボストン美術館所蔵　俺たちの国芳　わたしの国貞」が3月19日より、Bunkamuraザ・ミュージアムでスタートした。 国芳と国貞は、ともに歌川派・初代歌川豊国に師事した兄弟弟子にあたる。兄弟子・国貞は、1786年に材木屋の息子として誕生。15、1６歳の頃に豊国と門下となり、豊国が得意とした役者似顔の手法を受け継いで、早くから役者絵において才能を開花させた。また、町人文化を反映した身近で人間的な感情にあふれた美人画も多く残し、1844年には豊国を襲名。師の名声と技術を受け継いで、幕末の浮世絵界を牽引した。
