The new Shibuya Parco will finally open on November 22. This is the first time in 3 years and 3 months since the temporary suspension in August 2016. Speaking of the redevelopment of Shibuya for the past few years, there has always been a buzz around the station, but the new government building in Shibuya Ward opened early this year, and `` LINE CUBE SHIBUYA (Shibuya Public Hall) '' opened in October. Furthermore, the grand opening of the new PARCO will continue, and it will return to the park street.
Among the new PARCOs, you ca n’t miss the “CHAOS KITCHEN” on the 1st basement and “RESTAURANT SEVEN” on the 7th floor. Up until now, Shibuya PARCO had a strong image of a commercial facility with a focus on “fashion” and “culture”, but Shinsei PARCO regards “food” as an important theme. The architect, Sosuke Fujimoto, is in charge of environmental design for the underground shopping street. Mirror surface materials are used for the ceiling and floor, and lighting and facades leaking from each store are reflected to create an Asian-like downtown atmosphere.
At the back of the aisle, one of the highlights is the playful decoration, such as the “C” logo that was used in the old Parco, with the chaos “C” in mind.

「食」が新生パルコの起爆剤になるのか? 「カオス地下街」のようなチャレンジは、吉と出るか凶と出るかは定かではないが、「従来の商業施設の飲食フロアにはない、全く新しいものをつくりたい!」という心意気は十分に理解できる。常に新しいカルチャーを発信し、時代をけん引してきたパルコらしさにあふれた試みとも言えるだろう。いよいよ22日にグランドオープンするパルコの今後の動向から目が離せない。
