A joint campaign “The 11th Shibuya Fashion Week,” which conveys the appeal of Shibuya through fashion, is held from March 14 to 24, 2019, mainly at large commercial facilities around Shibuya Station. The annual street fashion show "SHIBUYA RUNWAY" was held at Inaribashi Square in front of the SHIBUYA STREAM on Wednesday, the 21st of the "Spring Day".
In the same campaign, which is held twice a year in spring and autumn, fashion shows in Shibuya street and outdoors have become a staple. In the past, it was carried out in the precincts of Kimio Hachimangu Shrine, on the street of Cultural Village Street, and in the open space in front of SHIBUYA CAST last spring, and it was crowded with many visitors.
This spring's main venue is Inaribashi Square, in front of the new commercial facility SHIBUYA STREAM was opened last fall. With the redevelopment of the elevated site on the former Toyoko Line, the area was newly created as the commercial facilities and the promenade along the Shibuya River were integrally developed. After the opening, there are various applications such as special events, corporate events, 3 × 3 sports events, etc. in the open space, but this is the first time to carry out a fashion show.
A red carpet was laid straight from Shibuya Station towards the Shibuya River, and a viewing space was provided on both sides of the carpet. Every year, during this time the weather was still chilly, and the models who were in love with the latest fashions, and the audience watching the show often spent shaking. On this day when "flowering of cherry blossoms" was announced, although the spring breeze was strong from morning, the temperature rose rapidly and it was a pleasant day.
A fashion show starts at 14 o'clock. In the first part "SHIBUYA FIRST STEP", "SHIROMA (Shiroma) / Shiho Joma", a promising young designer of "Tokyo New Designer Award", develops a fashion show.
The difference in the gloss with different materials such as cotton and rayon, and the embroidered plants finished like "vintage patch," attracted attention in the details of the show, which made it easy to see details that are often overlooked.
Subsequently, the second part entitled "Shibuya style", shop clerks in the Shibuya area, including large commercial facilities participating in the campaign himself, wore the latest fashion of spring and summer, and walked the runway.
Although it is an amateur model who is not used to walking, the walking is magnificent while being a little shy. The appearance to be cool, lovely and cute without being insulted even in front of a large number of press members can not but be complimented as "a shop clerk in Shibuya!"
At the end of the two part show, the artist Cho Hikaru appeared in a dress with the original paint applied to the SHIROMA fashion, expressing a new style that combines fashion and art. When the finale was reached, a big applause from the venue was happening.
As a new attempt this time, "Art and fashion fusion" was performed, and Cho Hikaru performed the dress of SHIROMA and the paint that imaged the feather of the eyebrows on his face. Unlike the bustling Hachiko square side, Shibuya station south side has traditionally had a dark image along the riverside and overpass, and it was an area unrelated to "fashion", but since SHIBUYA STREAM opened last fall , The impression of the city has changed a lot. People who sit on the steps of the stream and enjoy the fashion show with a cup of coffee make you even feel an atmosphere reminiscent of somewhere in the Spanish square in Rome or the Campo square in Siena. It can be said that this is the birth of a new Shibuya-like new space that fosters stream culture.
